Peaches Poached in Wine

Serves 4

3/4 cup water
1/4 cup red wine
1 piece of lemon rind
1 cinnamon stick
1 whole clove
4 whole peaches, peeled

Simmer all ingredients gently until peaches are tender. Remove peaches from syrup. Discard lemon rind, cinnamon stick, and clove. Sweeten syrup to taste and pour over fruit. Serve warm or well chilled.
